Presentations

You can participate in the conference by:

Technical Presentations (session description)

If you are interested in making a formal technical presentation, you must submit an abstract on your proposed topic describing the details of your presentation and how it is relevant for the Labs21 Community. Your total presentation time will be 30 minutes, including 20 minutes to present and 10 minutes for audience questions and answers. See suggested presentation topics in the section below. A full description of a technical session is also available.

Sustainable Equipment Track (session description)

In addition to technical sessions at the 2010 conference, I2SL plans to offer a new track of presentations specifically for manufacturers of sustainable, energy-efficient laboratory equipment and systems, which will take place concurrently with the technical sessions and symposia. If you have cutting-edge technologies that correspond with the Labs21 Approach and help maximize sustainability in high-performance facilities, please provide an abstract detailing your product and how it will benefit the Labs21 Community. This track is only open to manufacturers participating in the 2010 Technology and Services Fair.

Posters (session description)

If you have an interesting project that you would like to share with the laboratory community, we encourage you to participate in the Labs21 Poster Session. This unique forum will showcase some of the world’s most innovative designs, engineering systems, and laboratory equipment and how they embrace the Labs21 Approach to sustainability. If your poster is accepted, you will receive specific requirements regarding the poster displays, including the dimensions of the poster board and the times that you will be required to staff your display at the conference.

Roll Up Your Sleeves Roundtable Projects (session description)

These informal working sessions allow those engaged in new or retrofit projects to gain insight, experience, and ideas from other Labs21 attendees. Members of the Labs21 Technical Team, as well as laboratory and high-performance building experts attending the conference, can provide their perspectives, which may help you address your major architectural and/or engineering sustainability challenges.

I2SL encourages organizations with new projects to participate in this session and take advantage of the opportunity to receive technical assistance from the industry experts that attend the conference. Labs21 Partners are especially encouraged to take part in this session.

Each abstract must include a description of the project’s specific architectural or engineering challenge(s) or operations and maintenance concern(s). Presenters are encouraged (but not required) to bring their blueprints, schematics, engineering plans, and operations and maintenance descriptions to the session.

Note: The Roll Up Your Sleeves Roundtable room will not contain audiovisual equipment other than microphones. PowerPoint presentations will not be permitted.

Morning Roundtable Sessions (session description)

Morning Roundtable Sessions provide conference attendees with the opportunity to have an open, informal discussion on some of today's emerging trends and topics in laboratory and high-performance facility sustainability. Each session consists of a 10-minute introduction to the topic by the presenter, followed by 50 minutes of facilitated open discussion among the attendees.

If you are interested in hosting a Morning Roundtable, you must submit an abstract for the discussion you would like to lead. This abstract must include:

  • A paragraph-long summary of the topic
  • An explanation of why the topic is relevant to the Labs21 Community
  • A list of goals/objectives you would like to achieve from the discussion

If your topic is accepted, you will receive specific instructions regarding the next steps for the discussion.

Note: In order to facilitate a more open discussion, the Morning Roundtable session rooms will not be equipped with audiovisual equipment other than microphones. PowerPoint presentations will not be permitted.

Selection Criteria

A committee of laboratory and energy efficiency experts will review all abstract submissions. Entries will be judged on:

  • The quality and merit of their technical value,
  • The clarity of their brief composition,
  • Their relevance to the Labs21 Community, and
  • The innovation and creativity of the material.

Special attention will be given to abstracts that focus on new developments and technologies or are related to the suggested presentation topics.

In addition, keep in mind:

  • Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
  • Any materials submitted will not be returned.

If the review committee feels your presentation would be better suited for a different presentation format than the one you submitted to, there is a possibility that it will be reclassified. You will be notified of any changes upon acceptance.

Note: Your presentation must be representative of the abstract you submitted. If Labs21 finds that there is not a significant correlation between your abstract and presentation, your invitation to present may be rescinded.
