I2SL is proud to sponsor opportunities to attend a Laboratories for the 21st Century (Labs21) workshop. The Labs21 Introductory Course: High Performance, Low-Energy Design is a full-day workshop that introduces strategies for designing and constructing sustainable laboratories in both new and existing facilities.
After attending the introductory course, participants are encouraged to attend the Advanced Course: Laboratory Ventilation Design. This course focuses on two elements for reducing energy use: first, a decision-making process for optimizing the laboratory ventilation rate is presented and, second, pragmatic and quantitative design features and elements for reducing air distribution energy-use are explored.
In addition to these two courses, I2SL offers the Laboratory Operations and Maintenance and Environmental Performance Criteria workshops. Taught by seasoned laboratory designers, energy managers, and facilities professionals, each of these courses offer beginners and experts an opportunity to learn more about sustainable laboratory design.
New at this year's conference is the Data Centers Save Energy Now Workshop! This course focuses on state-of-the-art strategies for how to improve data center energy performance.
Also being offered at the Labs21 2008 Annual Conference is the K-14 Teaching Laboratories Workshop.
This Workshop addresses issues as they relate to energy conservation, sustainability, and education through the integration of laboratory furnishings and systems planning. The Workshop will educate attendees about the performance mandates associated with these topics, relevant system technology issues, new and emerging systems promoted through LEED® and case studies of recently designed K-12 learning laboratories.
Organizations willing to host one or more of the Labs21 Workshops now have an opportunity to hold an additional half- or full-day Sustainability Advisory Session with Labs21-registered instructors. The session will allow workshop hosts and other participants to receive invaluable technical assistance on a specific project from one or more of Labs21's expert instructors.
In addition to hosting Labs21 Workshops across the country in 2008, I2SL will host all four courses during pre-conference training sessions at the Labs21 2008 Annual Conference on September 15 in San Jose, California.
Registration for these courses at the Labs21 2008 Annual Conference will open May 30, 2008!
