LABbuild 2004 Conference and Exhibition

In November 2004, more than 250 laboratory professionals gathered in Brisbane, Australia, to discuss the design, construction and management of modern laboratories. Presented by CSIRO, one of Australia's largest owners and operators of research facilities, LABbuild focused on the issues affecting research facilities in the twenty-first century. Labs21 was honored to play a key role at this first-of-its-kind event in Australia—offering our one-day Design Course and contributing to various technical sessions. The photos below share some of the highlights from this exciting event.

During the LABbuild opening session, Mark Kelly of Woods Bagot shared his experiences with multi-national research companies to describe how research facilities are meeting global challenges today and how they can continue to do so into the future. The opening session also included keynote addresses by Dr. Jim Peacock, President of the Australian Academy of Science, and independent lab consultant, Dr. Richard Rietz.

The audience at the LABbuild opening session included representatives from government, universities, architecture and engineering firms, and research organizations from throughout Australia and New Zealand.

In addition to leading the Labs21 Design Course, members of the Labs21 team presented during one of the many technical sessions at LABbuild.

The LABbuild dinner provided attendees with a great networking opportunity and a forum in which to relax. The Conference provided a number of other optional events, including a guided tour to some of Australia's newest working laboratories.
