Labs21 Centers of Excellence are independent sites run by organizations
that share the goals of the Labs21 program. Labs21 is proud to recognize
its current Centers of Excellence:
- Center for High Performance Learning Environments at Virginia
Tech
- Center of Excellence in Marine-Based Laboratories at the University
of Hawaii
Conference attendees were able to learn more about the exciting
activities each Center is undertaking, including:
Center for High Performance Learning Environments at Virginia
Tech
The Center for High Performance Learning Environments (CHPLE) at
Virginia Tech met with interested parties and potential partners
during a special discussion session during which CHPLE summarized
activities from 2004 and encouraged attendees to help identify research
and outreach needs related to the energy and environmental design
and operation of school laboratories and learning lab environments.
Center of Excellence in Marine-Based Laboratories at the University
of Hawaii
The University of Hawaii hosted a National Marine-Based Laboratories
and Aquaria Network Building Session in order to bring together
organizations that own, manage, operate, design, and engineer marine-based
laboratories and aquaria. The Center is looking for expert advice
in formulating its research and development activities in the design
and engineering of sustainable marine laboratories and aquaria.
The goal for their meeting was to identify a network of laboratory
and aquaria administrators, scientists, architects, design and operational
engineers, industry specialists, and equipment suppliers who would
provide support, participate on a Center research board, and collaborate
in developing specialized solutions for these unique facilities.
